Be who you are

Image
These days it seems as if everyone wants to be like someone else. Maybe it is a certain hairstyle or having a super model body figure or even to become successful to make lots of money like the rich and famous. Teenagers are pressured to be like their friends so that would fit into the "in" crowd. The media especially social media, seems to be bombarding everyone's lives, mostly in a negative way. We spend a lot of time swiping or typing to keep up with life's events. Even our thoughts are flying off the shelf with this and that to do and the next thing you know is that another day has gone by. It has happened to me and I am sure it has happened to many if not all of you at some point in time. Companies have spent millions to get that response from us. You may see advertisements at clothing stores with celebrities and models showing off the clothing. Even the mannequin have perfect bodies.  It appeals to the unconscious. A marketing strategy. How many of us are goin...

Stand out from the crowd

Image
Have you ever wanted to just fit in when everyone else is not like you or rather when you are not like everyone else? This is usually common among teenagers and young people but it is not exclusive to just them alone. I have seen a lot of adults who are like that. I ask myself why. Why? Really why? Why be a copycat? Why try to be something that you are not? We've all done it some time or the other, but to make it a life's dream to be someone or something you are not, then that is a bit too much. Don't aim to be a copycat. God has made you unique. Special. You are one of a kind. Just be yourself and stand out from the crowd. Have a blessed day/night! :)

Happy Mother's Day!

Image
I just want to take the time to wish all moms out there a happy and blessed Mother's Day! A mother's job is never done is it? There is always something that a mother wants to do for her child. It may be to get something (purchased or made), do something such as a call or text or even cook a meal or favorite dish. Then there are the never ending prayers. No matter how grown the kids get, a praying mom keeps on praying. Many mothers are good mothers. They care for their children and what happens to them. They want to hold them or try to be there for them when life does not go well for them.  A mother is not superwoman but she sure does hold many capes. In her child's eyes, she is strong and cannot do wrong. She is readily available whether physically or through communicating from a phone, computer or some other method. She cooks the best meals. Her touch or voice is very soothing. She can bring a smile to her child's face. Everything is alright when mom is there for he...

Being carried through a loss

Image
I was doing some spring cleaning on Friday and I came across some stuff which brought back memories. Painful memories. It wasn't something that I think about everyday but the thoughts go to that distant place every once in a while.  It was over fourteen years ago and I was thirteen weeks pregnant. My hubby and I were super excited. We already had names planned for it. We couldn't wait! Then early one January morning, I woke up with a coughing fit. It did not want to stop. Then I had one spell where I gave a big cough and sat up in bed from it. At that very moment, I felt something. I hurried to the bathroom and saw blood. I couldn't believe it! We hastened to get ready and went to the Health Department where I was a patient at that time. They took me in and I went through the check ups. They listened for heartbeat and found none. When they took an ultrasound, their suspicions were confirmed. The foetus had died. We were devastated. I was in shock. My husband and I held e...

Physical reminders of God's Word in my life

Image
Yesterday I was cleaning out my bedside table drawers and found one of my notebooks I'd crafted years ago. I'd personalized it to make it my own prayer journal/diary/reminder. That was in the year 2009. As I flipped through the pages, I was reminded of what I did and experienced. You see, I was going through different things in my life such as health problems etc. They were causing me anxiety, stress and worry. I began to realize that they were making me take my eyes off God and focus more on my problems. I'd made that special book to help me keep my eyes on Him instead and not on my situations. Here is how I specialized the journal: * I got me cheap notebook. I paid $0.25 for it on clearance at a certain superstore, but you usually can get it at any dollar store. * I took some scrapbook paper and covered it to hide the ugly cover. *I then punched out some card stock tags and decorated the front. I wrote one of my special scripture on it. *Using the book as a sort of d...

Be imperfectly perfect

Image
Photography is one of my passions. I love taking out pictures of anything and everything- whatever catches my fancy. I look around me wherever I go and start taking mental photos if I do not have my camera in hand. Today, as I got home from running errands, I noticed how my rose bushes were starting to bloom. There were new buds popping up everywhere. They were all in different stages of maturity. Perfection is the word that came to my mind. I went upstairs and grabbed my camera and hurried outside to get some shots. As I neared closer to the roses, I noticed that a few of them were not perfect. Some had darkened areas, some had tiny holes in them while others did not have perfectly formed petals. I still pressed the shutter button. I wanted to capture them all. I loved how the blooms look as a whole. I admire each one. Though some of the "perfectly" formed roses looked fantastic, the other roses still bloomed where they were. They made part of the picture as well. They ...

Life is a beautiful ride

Today, my hubby took some time off his busy schedule so we can have some well-deserved quality time together with our little one. It was a fun half day for us. I thank God for it. First, we got breakfast at Mc Donald's and then headed off to Chattanooga. My first stop was at Michael's-my favorite craft store! I got a few good deals. It was fun seeing my daughter oohing as she happily chatted with hubby. After that, I went to Home Goods while they went to Petland. I found me a gorgeous coffee mug on clearance for only $2.00! There were a few different mugs, but this one got me from the very first moment I saw it. You see, I love old bikes and there was a wonderful graphic of a bike on the mug. I was thrilled! Afterwards, we went to the mall where we got some Chinese noodles and sesame chicken before heading home- not before our daughter got a waffle cone with cookies and cream ice-cream from Baskin Robbins. All this may seem something trivial to some but to us, the time we spen...
